Odegitria Metodo Classico – Cantina Museo di Albea – 95 points ZWC
Odegitria… An Extraordinary “Bolla” Rich in History and Flavor.
Odegitria is the name that Cantina Museo Albea has dedicated to the “Virgin Odigitria,” the protector of the lands and people of the Itria Valley.
Odegitria also means: She who leads, showing the way.
The culture of the “Virgin Odigitria” connects regions such as Sardinia, where she is venerated as the protector of fishermen in cities like Sassari, Villamar, Guasila, Arbus, and even in Portoscuso in the southern part of the island, with celebrations lasting a week.
In Sicily, in places like Calascibetta and Viagrande at the foot of Mount Etna where the Church of Santa Maria dell’Itria is located, she is also venerated in Piana degli Albanesi, Palazzolo Acreide, Paternò, Sommatino, Delia, Campofranco, and in the beautiful little church dedicated to her in Modica.
However, the historical heart of the cult is in Apulia, where the “Virgin Odigitria” is particularly venerated in the area known as “Itria,” which derives its name from Odegitria herself. She is the co-patroness of Bari along with Saint Nicholas and is venerated in cities such as Martina Franca, Monopoli, Bitetto, Bitritto, Acquaviva delle Fonti, and many other locations in this magnificent region.
Dedicating a wine, a classic method sparkling wine, with great olfactory nuances, wonderful drinkability, persistence, and intensity, doubly honors the name on the label: Odegitria. This tribute to the “Virgin Odigitria” strengthens the bond with the area where this wine originates, offering the opportunity to taste a piece of the Itria Valley and to recount the rich history that ties different territories to the culture and popular traditions.
