Nerè – Feudo Maccari – 2020 – 95 points ZWC

Nerè – Feudo Maccari – 2020 – 95 points ZWC

Feudo Maccari, the winery that lends its name to the district it represents.

We are a few kilometers south of Noto, in the province of Syracuse, Sicily, where the Maccari district touches the sea and faces Vendicari, the most beautiful wildlife oasis in the Mediterranean. Maccari is a characteristic district of the “Prince” grape of Sicily, Nero d’Avola, which, together with the districts of Baroni, Bufaleffi, Buonivini, and San Lorenzo, gives this grape some of its finest expressions.

The “Prince” grape of Sicily, Nero d’Avola, is also known as “Calabrese,” a name derived from a distortion of the Sicilian terms “Cala” and “Aulisi” (“Calanno di Avola,” meaning “descending from Avola”), resulting in “Calaaulisi” and hence “Calabrese.” This not only characterizes the name but also the geographical position of the first vineyards of this magnificent grape variety.

With Nerè, Feudo Maccari pays homage to the grape and its region, as the winemaking process is deeply rooted in its district. The color is typical of the grape, a vibrant ruby red. On the nose, there are notes of wild berries, especially fresh and juicy blackberries, complemented by Mediterranean spicy notes. The characteristic pepper aroma in the center of the nose transitions between black and white pepper.

On the palate, it is fresh, long, and intense, with a persistence that touches every taste bud and delivers in a balanced manner what the nose had promised. Nero d’Avola pairs well with spiced meats, grilled sausages, and glasses that evoke friendship and good drinking. A glass of Nerè – Feudo Maccari – Nero d’Avola 2020 allows you to savor with every sip the magnificent land from which it was born.

The score awarded to this wine could only be a gold medal with its 95 points of excellence.
