Maidomo – White Negroamaro – Tenuta Viglione – 95 points ZWC

When you think of Negroamaro, your mind races to Puglia, immersing you in sensations where wine flows through your veins. This grape variety, native to this splendid land, encapsulates its essence in its name: “negro” reflecting its rich polyphenolic content, and “amaro” hinting at its slightly bitter aftertaste that leaves a unique sensation in the mouth.

We tasted it as a white wine. Yes, this might seem paradoxical given the name “Negro,” but this wine emerged from the winemaker’s hands through a purely white vinification process.

Its charm immediately envelops the senses. The olfactory note is laden with fruit, yellow peach skin, a slight citrus hint, and finishes with small colorful flowers. On the palate, its supremacy fully dominates, and its “red” nature drives the taste buds to admire its notes.

The pairings are versatile: it is recommended for robust aperitifs featuring cheeses and cured meats, or it can transition to a good glass with raw fish, where its savory aspect creates a fresh taste and pleasant palate-cleansing effect. Finally, it pairs well with both white and red meats, whether slightly grilled or stewed.

A wine that, upon its first appearance, deserves a gold medal, with a score of 95 points awarded by “Zosimo Wine Critic – 2023.”
